Denise Ward               Guide Since 1999

Ghost Walk & Group Tours

Denise has bore witness to many strange happenings during her ghostly adventures. Sometimes it's simply a guest fainting or falling over violently ill, while at other times it's a child's face appearing in a vacant home's window or the bone-chilling cry coming from a darkened graveyard. Whatever the cause of the disturbance she will help guests to know when it's time to simply pause and take a deep breath, or when it's time to run.

Having merged the fields of storyteller and entertainer her guests are always moved by the power behind her tours.

John Hirchak - AKA Bennie Brownshoes          Guide since 1999

Ghost Walk, Hollywood Location Walk & Group Tours

Via the inspiration of his loving wife, Kim (the true instigator of the Ghost Walk of Old Wilmington), John has helped put her 30-years of spectral research into the written/performance form.  Emotionally scarred after a freak accident during an introspective moment, he has since discovered a fondness for scaring the young & extremely frail. Aside from this he possesses no "special" talent, which in its own right is a "special" talent.  Burdened with fits of excitability & a forceful voice, guests should be prepared to take a soaking from stray spittle.  His funniest & scariest moment on a Ghost Walk was when his inner self quite suddenly emerged & proved to have an uncanny likeness to Van Gogh's missing ear.  "It was an endearing moment," guests shouted, as they beat the ear senseless.  A star of over 0 major motion pictures, including several leading roles in nothing, John has rediscovered his fondness for menial things. He has a likable character (though likable to what, few can say). He is fond of uttering clever things during his tours, such as "Our next stop is here," or "Please watch your step."

Mike Hartle - AKA Dreyfuss Wilder, Speil Stephenberg       Guide Since 2001

Ghost Walk, Hollywood Location Walk, Pirate & Unusual Tales Walk & Group Tours

1962 - Born in New York City.
1986 - Moved to Wilmington
2001 - Had first syllable of "Yankee" surgically removed.
A seasoned actor (now entering 30th season), Dreyfuss also teaches and coaches acting, mostly to the local youth, preferring to mold (warp?) the minds of theater's future.
He has appeared in, directed, choreographed, worked backstage and/or teched lights & sound for well over 200 productions since school. Unbitten by the film bug, he can only be found with a remote's freeze frame in a half-dozen movies.
Known to many downtown as "The Pirate Guy," Dreyfuss confesses he was not a firm believer in the ghost world before he started conducting these tours. Wilmington's deceased saw that that didn't last long!  The overwhelming and undeniable manifestations his groups experience on an alarmingly regular basis have made a knock-kneed expert out of him!

John Henry Scott               Guide Since 2002

Ghost Walk, Pirate & Unusual Tales Walk, Pub Crawl & Group Tours

As a lifelong performer, John Henry Scott is a consummate storyteller & loves the stories of paranormal & historic happenings in Wilmington. His groups feel the commitment & carry away something special with every tour.  As a stage actor he has over a hundred leads in dinner theater productions. As a  film actor he has 22 speaking roles in major films & TV series, including several leads & supporting roles. As a magician he performs at festivals & fairs all over the south including the 1984 World's Fair, as wizard & clown. As well as a stilt walker, he is a former Ronald McDonald, Bozo & Burger King. He was boss clown of Circus International for several years.  As a musician, John toured all over the United States from Alaska to New York, to Florida, to Hollywood (& many points in between) with a Cajun/Zydeco band.  He is a published poet & producer/playwright.  His most frightening experience was at the Rhino Club while talking about  faucets running on their own accord, they did! Scared everyone to death! His funniest moment was at  Lula's when a young woman stepped into a darkened ladies room where friend was secretly waiting. A real scream.          Visit John's Magic Page HERE. Visit John's Clown Page HERE.

Tara Noland - AKA Charity LaVilaine     Guide Since 2005

Ghost Walk, Hollywood Location Walk & Group Tours

Born at sea, the daughter of a stowaway and a chamber boy. She lived the most impressionable years of her life as a shadow in the holds of the ship. From humble beginnings rises a woman of formidable reputation. A cruel and relentless taskmaster, masquerading as a humble tour guide. Beware appearances can be very deceiving, and in this case the mistake could be deadly.

When she isn't guiding a tour, she's guiding the productions at Kenan Auditorium as the Production Manager, Stage Manager & Crew Chief, often lending her talents as the Lighting Designer. She began performing as a child, wanting very much to be a professional dancer & actor for as long as she can remember. A creative personality preferring tangible media, she began guiding tours as a way to express that side of her being  that needs to have the spotlight. And yes - she is the first to admit she can be a bit of a ham... but you are not the only ones looking to have fun on these tours. Are you?

Damond Nelson - AKA Barry M. Deep     Guide Since 2005

Ghost Walk, Hollywood Location Walk, Pirate & Unusual Tales Walk & Group Tours

Born with a rusty, jagged 5' long splintered wooden handled shovel in his hand ("a silver spoon was too good for me," he says), Barry found himself an orphan (his mum did not survive childbirth). From a wee age he became fascinated with digging, earning a good living from grave robbing.

Barry has suffered many ghostly encounters on his tour (don't stand too close). Barry believes in stretching his guest's emotional boundaries. A good scare mixed in with a shed tear and a little laughter goes a long way to making his tour most memorable. Besides, if you don't react to his feverish intensity he simply whacks you across the head with his shovel (yes, the same one he was born with)!

Stan Wood     Guide Since 2006

Ghost Walk, Pub Crawl, Pirate & Unusual Tales Walk & Group Tours

Stan "Howell" Wood brings with him over twenty years of acting experience and a genuine fascination for the macabre past of Old Wilmington.  He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre Performance.  Stan also performed at a live Medieval Tournament and Dinner Theatre in Myrtle Beach as the Master of Ceremonies for nearly five years.  His tall frame and projecting voice make him a natural guide and storyteller.  Stan truly enjoys entertaining.  He also proudly recognizes that story telling has served as a method for both entertainment and education for centuries before radio or television.  Stan considers story telling a lost art and brings his desire to revitalize it to each and every tour.  His Native American and Irish heritage also lend him a sort of predisposition for the Pub Crawls in particular (or so he claims).  He invites any and everyone to come "gather by the fire" and enjoy learning about the sordid past of our fair Port City.

Christy Grantham     Guide Since 2008
